LWV—AA Teams

The LWV—Acton Area has four Issue and Action Teams. These teams afford our members opportunities to take action based on LWV positions and to explore issues and educate others.

The Education Team focuses on policies and issues related to schools and teaching.

The Environment Team discusses policies designed to protect the environment. At last fall's Oktoberfest, the Acton Area League of Women Voters Environment Team launched a campaign to encourage Acton residents to switch from incandescent to compact fluorescent (CF) light bulbs.

The Government Team deals with how legislation is created and enacted.

The Social Policy Team pays attention to how government can affect daily life. Domestic violence, affordable housing, transportation issues, health care—many of the hot issues of the day are under the umbrella of the local Social Policy Team. The team holds monthly meetings, open to any interested members, at which there is one focus topic as well as updates on other issues. Members share their own experiences and invite non-League speakers to bring additional expertise to the discussions.

Some of this year's issues will include:

• Affordable housing (LWVM study and consensus)
• Child abuse/domestic violence
• Restorative justice
• Immigration policies (LWVUS study and consensus)
• Casino gambling
• Health care
